d) Dolphin
Dolphins use a natural system called echolocation to navigate and find prey underwater.
They emit high-frequency sound waves that travel through water. When these sound waves hit an object, they bounce back as echoes. By analyzing these echoes, dolphins can determine:
Distance
Size
Shape
Movement of objects
Scientists studied this biological system and developed SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging) technology.
SONAR is used in:
Ships to detect underwater objects
Submarines
Measuring ocean depth
Detecting obstacles and enemy vessels
Other options:
Cat → Uses hearing and vision
Shark → Strong sense of smell
Eagle → Excellent eyesight
• Dolphins use echolocation
• Sound waves travel → hit object → return as echo
• Brain calculates distance from echo time
• Inspired invention = SONAR
• Used in ships and submarines
• Common exam trap: choosing Shark
